Laurel & Hardy

I live in the United States and grew up in the '60s. The American television industry was facing some pretty daunting growing pains at that time. Sure, the national networks had hit shows, some of them even in "living color," but the local affilliates had limited resources and needed to fill hour after hour of dead airtime.

One of the cheapest ways to fill that airtime (as luck would have it) was by broadcasting old movies. So I grew up watching stars from a bygone era. Most of them had already passed away, but through their cinematic achievements they lived on!

Comedy—that was my poison.

Laurel & Hardy, W.C. Fields, Abbott & Costello, the Marx Brothers.

Martin & Lewis, Chaplin, Lloyd, Keaton…I soaked 'em all up like a sponge. Little did I know what an impression those comedy greats would make on me and my life.

Later, when I was a teen, I discovered old-time radio and the comic antics of comedians that were heard but not seen: Jack Benny, Burns & Allen and Edgar Bergen, among others. Even current television stars seemed to pale in comparison to the stars of the kinescopes: Uncle Milty, Sid Caesar and Jackie Gleason were kings on my box—even though I was watching their antics years after they first performed them. Now, decades later, I still watch and laugh.

Along the way, I've accumulated a tremendous collection of memorabilia, original props, autographs, personal items, photographs, letters and original scripts associated with the men (and women) who brought so much joy to my life. I've been collecting for 30+ years! The top items in my collection are pieces that literally give me goosebumps every time I touch them.

I decided to start this website to share some anecdotes, memorabilia, and (most importantly) laughs! Thanks for visiting. I hope you find something that'll amuse you, inspire you, or otherwise tickle your funny bone.

That's my story, and I'm stuck with it!
